A runway for alien cultures? In Houten (The Netherlands)? Yes, you have read it correctly! Within the coming months, this artproject will have been constructed, and will be the new gateway to Houten from the highway A27.

The artwork will be placed on and between two roundabouts at the entrance and exit of the A27 highway in Houten, from where it will be clearly visible. On the eastern roundabout, a UFO-platform will be constructed: a lit smooth concrete surface with a lightblue, reflecting artificial coating. In the centre a big red U, much like the H seen on helicopter platforms.

On the western roundabout, a traffic tower will arise, which will be lit from the inside. The light in the tower can change colour, as soon as the traffic on the A27 is low in intensity. Then, UFO's will know that landing can take place. The connecting 300 metre stretch of road will be lit with blue lights on either side of the road, as also seen at airports.

The artwork is clearly visible from the A27 highway, and will be such a landmark for the municipality, that everyone on the highway will use this landmark as an orientation point.
